POISON GARDEN
The trees in the manzanilla forest, or the poison garden, bear fruit, which locals also call ‘devil’s apples’, because they are very poisonous. The juice of this plant used to be used as poison on arrows to poison the victim. Presumably the Spanish Juan Ponce de Leon, conquistador and slave owner, would have been killed in this way.
